Covid Vaccination Information

The Coronavirus Vaccine rollout will include GP practices. We will be contacting eligible patients before the process begins to invite them for vaccination. There is no need to do anything at present to register.

We will be following HSE guidance on vaccination and inviting patients according to to the groups listed. We will start with our eldest patients over 85, and work down in 5 year increments until all of our over 70 year-olds are vaccinated.

We will do our best to prioritise our patients with chronic diseases in these groups to be vaccinated first. Please think about how you will get to the surgery if you have difficulties mobilising.

Please visit the following HSE webpage for further information on the Coronavirus Vaccine rollout - we will update this post when we have more information:

COVID-19 - UPDATED PRACTICE PROCEDURES

Please see the below summary of the important steps we have taken to ensure our practice and patients remain as safe as possible during the Coronavirus pandemic.

We need your support and adherence to these changes if we are to remain open during the pandemic. We desperately want to avoid having to self-isolate/close the practice for two weeks in the event of a case.

Coronavirus COVID-19 Information for Churchtown Family Practice patients

Please note when booking an appointment, please consider whether you actually need to attend the practice - many illness are mild self-limiting viruses that do not require treatment. We are trying to reduce the risk of spreading any illnesses around by asking patients only to book appointments if necessary. Our reception staff will ask about this when you call. Appointments are generally not needed for repeat prescriptions.

There are a number of simple steps that can be taken to help protect yourself and others from Coronavirus:

  • Regular hand-washing using warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. If not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing by coughing into your elbow/sleeve and or using a tissue

  • Dispose of used tissues in bins/wash your hands

  • Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces – standard household surface cleaners and disinfectants are sufficient.

  • Avoid close contact with people with any respiratory symptoms.

  • Follow local public health guidance and travel advisory information.

  • Wearing a mask to protect yourself is not necessary unless you are personally at high risk of contracting the disease due to being in a high-risk area and having underlying medical conditions.

As this situation is rapidly evolving, local guidelines will change and be updated frequently. It is important to familiarise yourself with these guidelines as they develop.

Further Information

If you are concerned that you might have contracted the Coronavirus, please DO NOT attend the practice. Please call the HSE helpline on 1850 24 1850 or call the practice for further advice if you cant get through to the HSE (please do not call the emergency department, 112/999 as their services are overwhelmed at present and are for emergencies only)

Season's Greetings! Christmas Opening Hours

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Season’s Greetings! It has been a busy year for Churchtown Family Practice with the transition of Dr Ormond’s patients to appointment and computer systems but we are encouraged by the near-universally positive feedback we have received. Dr Ormond hung up his stethoscope in the springtime and is enjoying retirement greatly.

Wishing you and yours every best wish and good health over the festive period, a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!

Hana & Knut

When your child is sick

As parents, we are passionate about our children's well being - from time to time I think it would be useful for us to share some tips/experiences that we have found useful along the way.

Professor Alf Nicholson is Professor of Paediatrics in RCSI and Temple Street Hospital - he has recently updated his book on common childhood illnesses and how to manage them for parents - even as doctors, we find this to be a great resource for common sense advice, particularly when looking for advice in the middle of the night - we think this is well worth a read!
